Report: Liverpool set to battle with PL rivals for £32m-rated attacker after surprise development

By Aramide Oladipo

Liverpool are prepared to battle Premier League rivals Arsenal and Manchester United for Paris Saint-Germain attacking midfielder Julian Draxler, according to a report.

The Mirror claims that the French giants are willing to offload the 23-year-old for £32million this summer despite signing him for £40million last January.

This comes as a surprise after Draxler’s agent Roger Witterman, told Bild last week, as quoted by the Mirror, that Draxler would be staying put, declaring: “Draxler will stay and will not be sold this summer.

The newspaper reports that all three Premier League clubs have been alerted of his availability and they are ready to fight to acquire his services in the transfer window.

The report claims that the Reds attempted to sign Draxler in the last January transfer window but a deal failed to materialise.

The German enjoyed a fine debut campaign in France, notching up 10 goals and providing three assists in all competitions.

At such a young age, Draxler has already achieved great success on the international stage as he was involved with the Germany national team who lifted the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

The youngster captained his country in this summer’s Confederation’s Cup tournament and featured in every single match as Germany also lifted the trophy.

Draxler’s current contract with PSG runs out in 2021.

Football Insider verdict

With PSG reportedly willing to offload the German for £32million, Liverpool must do everything within their power to secure his signature this summer. With the Philippe Coutinho situation still causing unrest and uncertainty, the Reds need to make a statement to bring some positivity around Anfield and land Draxler before the window closes. Draxler is a player who is perfectly capable of filling Coutinho’s boots should the Brazilian eventually end up in Barcelona and at just 23, there is still room to improve on his game. With United and Arsenal both interested, it will be intriguing to see where the German would prefer to play his football but a switch to Liverpool would surely see him play more on a regular basis. £32m is an absolute bargain given some of the other crazy deals that have happened this summer.

In other Liverpool transfer news, a mouth-watering new bid has been place for star Philippe Coutinho, which the club have responded to immediately.
