Liverpool will attempt to sign Inaki Williams from Athletic Bilbao in the summer, according to a report.
The Sun reports that Jurgen Klopp will be handed a £150million war chest to improve his squad and the 22-year-old is at the top of his shopping list.
It is reported that he has a £43million release clause in his contract that runs until June 2021.
Klopp also wants to bring Tiemoue Bakayoko, Virgil Van Dijk and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to Anfield in the summer.
Williams is one of La Liga’s hottest prospects and the quick winger is expected to make his 100th senior appearance on Sunday when his side travel to Real Sociedad in the Basque derby.
He has played in all but one of Bilbao’s games this season in all competitions and has featured 37 times, contributing to 12 goals by scoring five and assisting a further seven.
Since making his debut in 2014, Williams has scored a total of 21 goals for the club in all competitions and assisted 14.
He is usually used as a right-winger although he can be utilised as a striker or on the opposite flank.
He is blisteringly fast and was recorded as the fastest player in La Liga two seasons back.
Vincente Del Bosque handed Williams his first, and currently his only, cap for Spain when he came off the bench in an international friendly against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
He has been a long-term Liverpool target, after it was reported that the PL club had sent scouts to watch him back in January 2016, with an eye to signing him last summer.
Football Insider Verdict
Williams is a very highly rated talent and is one of the most exciting youngsters produced by the Bilbao home-grown set up in recent years. He will become Liverpool’s record signing if they decided to buy him for the total of his release clause. As has been shown this season, with the injury to Philippe Coutinho and Sadio Mane going to the Africa Cup of Nations, Klopp needs depth in his squad in order to compete throughout the Premier League season, especially with his high-intensity tactics, and Williams would absolutely fit the bill here. He’s almost the perfect Klopp player and with a reported £150million to spend, he could well be heading to Liverpool for the start of next season.
