'A perfect mix' – Liverpool 27-year-old drops big team news hint for West Brom clash
By Matt Bullin
Liverpool and Croatia centre back Dejan Lovren has dropped a big hint that Liverpool are set to line up in the same formation they did against Stoke in their last Premier League game when they face West Brom on Sunday.
Last time out Jurgen Klopp opted for a 3-4-3 formation against Stoke, as Lovren started in a back three alongside Ragnar Klavan and Joel Matip, and the Croatian has hinted the Reds may line up in the same way again.
Nathaniel Clyne and Trent Alexander-Arnold operated as wing-backs in this system as the German tried to ready his side for a physical onslaught from Stoke.
Liverpool’s preferred formation this season has been a 4-3-3, and it showed in the first half at the bet365 Stadium as they went 1-0 down to a Jon Walters header.
After the introduction of Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho the new system began to bear fruit as the Brazilian pair both bagged a goal as Liverpool ran out 2-1 winners.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Lovren said of Sunday’s clash: “Stoke is a similar team to West Brom with long balls, and we played the system quite well in the second half.
“I think it’s a perfect mix for us – Matip in the middle, me on the right because I’m right-footed, and Raggy [Klavan] on the left because he’s left-footed. It’s quite a good mix.”
The Croatian has made 27 league and cup appearances for the Reds this term and is one of their first choice centre backs – alongside Matip.
A win against West Brom on Sunday will see them stay in third, regardless of Manchester City’s result with Southampton.
The 27-year-old suggests Liverpool will adopt the three at the back formation again this Sunday but fans will hope they adapt more quickly than they did against Stoke.
