Liverpool are interested in Southampton’s defensive midfielder Mario Lemina, according to a report in France.
L’Equipe media outlet state that the Reds are keen on bolstering their strength in the centre of the park and after having impressed since his switch to the Premier League outfit last summer, the Gabon-born ace is seen as an ideal partner for the incoming Naby Keita.
Lemina has one goal in 22 appearances for the top-flight strugglers, who are just two points above the relegation zone, and is under contract until 2022 after his £15million arrival from Juventus last summer.
The Saints have become something of a ‘feeder’ club for Liverpool in recent seasons with the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Nathaniel Clyne, Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren, Sadio Mane, and Rickie Lambert all arriving from the south coast side.
Football Insider verdict:
Liverpool already have a wealth of talent in the midfield zone and whilst Lemina is a top prospect, the Reds are building something special and need a player that will improve on what they have. With Mane, Firmino, and Salah going forward and Emre Can seemingly on his way out, they need a strong tough-tackling midfielder to dominate in the centre of the park and it’s questionable as to whether the 6ft Lemina can impress in the same way as the outgoing German.
In Liverpool transfer news, Klopp reportedly green-lights the loan move of 21-year-old, he is not the answer for the Reds.
