LIverpool have tabled a firm offer for Real Madrid playmaker Marco Asensio, according to a report.
Spanish publication Diario Gol claim that the Merseysiders are one of five clubs who had made strong attempts to prise the playmaker from the Spanish giants.
It is said that Arsenal, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Juventus have also tabled offers to the Spain international, who is regarded as one of the outstanding young talents in world football.
Asensio is a key man for fourth-placed La Liga club Real, scoring 10 goals and five assists from out wide in his 35 appearances across all competitions for the Spanish giants this season.
But he was benched in favour of Isco for the Champions League holders’ 3-1 last-16 first leg win over Paris Saint-Germain last Wednesday.
Diario Gol report that Asensio is extremely frustrated at occasionally playing second fiddle to the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and fit-again Gareth Bale and is ready to quit Real in the summer if Zinedine Zidane is still manager.
Football Insider verdict:
Asensio is a player in demand and it is blindingly obvious as to why. His two goals against Real Betis in Real Madrid’s thrilling 5-3 win on Sunday night demonstrated his superlative technical ability and capacity to rise to the big occasion. It is to the benefit of Liverpool and Asensio’s other suitors that the left-footed rising star is getting fidgety at Zidane’s use of him and regular starts on the bench. Don’t rule out a mega-money move for the Spaniard this summer.
