Liverpool tipped to axe 'beast' after early team news - pundit
Liverpool defender Joel Matip is “100 per cent” certain to start against Atletico Madrid.
That is the view of former Premier League goalkeeper Paul Robinson, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Jurgen Klopp’s team selection for tonight’s Champions League clash.
Matip dropped to the bench for Liverpool’s last two Premier League fixtures with Ibrahima Konate, 22, taking his place in the starting XI.
As quoted by the Liverpool Echo (26th October), assistant manager Pep Lijnders hailed Konate “a beast” after his performance at Man United.
However, on Saturday, the Reds surrendered a two-goal lead against Brighton with Konate and Virgil van Dijk at centre-half.
Robinson is adamant Matip, 30, will return to the starting XI tonight.

“When you go to Old Trafford and get a result in the way that they did, it is very difficult to find a reason to leave a player out,” he told Football Insider.
“I think that is why Konate started at the weekend. Matip was just a victim of the previous weekend’s team’s success.
“I’m sure that back line is going to change now though. Matip has been excellent this season so he’ll come straight back into the team, 100 per cent. It will more than likely be alongside Van Dijk.”
Speaking to club media yesterday, Klopp revealed Naby Keita is on the only fresh injury concern heading into the game against Atletico Madrid.
He said: “Naby has a hamstring injury so will be out for a while.”
