Liverpool tipped to finalise Joe Gomez deal after talks update – pundit
Noel Whelan has tipped Joe Gomez to quit Liverpool this summer if Calvin Ramsay joins from Aberdeen.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 18-year-old right-back’s arrival would allow the current Anfield star to forge his career somewhere else.
As revealed by Football Insider on Wednesday (2 June), Liverpool are in advanced talks to sign Ramsay after a breakthrough in transfer negotiations.

Discussions are set to take place with the player over contract terms and where he fits into the Reds’ plans moving forward.
Aberdeen are seeking a £3million-plus fee with add-ons for the teenage sensation.
Having seen Gomez feature primarily as a backup right-back during the 2021/22 campaign, Whelan suggested Ramsay’s signing could give him the green light to move on this summer.
Asked if Ramsay’s prospective arrival could see Gomez leave Anfield, Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Yeah, I think so. Absolutely.
“When you look at the options they have at centre-half, Konate, I thought, was excellent last season. I thought we really saw the best of him and how well he settled into that side next to Van Dijk.
“You’ve got other players that can fit in there that are ahead of Gomez. Bringing in a right-back, instead of using a centre-half as a makeshift, makes more sense.
“That frees up that position to allow a centre-half to go and forge and keep up that progression in his career somewhere else.

“If you’re bringing players in for more, you’ve got to sell players as well. You can’t just collect players, you’ve got to be sensible about what’s more important.”
Gomez played 21 times during the 2021/22 season, starting 11 games.
