Liverpool told to complete marquee signing within days after big twist – expert
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted it would be a “concern” if Liverpool don’t make a marquee summer signing by next week.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed “the clock is starting to tick for them”, with “time pressure” now becoming a factor in negotiations.
Liverpool are the only Premier League side yet to make a signing in the summer transfer window.
Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (13 August) that Reds boss Arne Slot is pushing the club’s sporting director Richard Hughes to sign a proven midfield star after a deal for Martin Zubimendi collapsed.
Slot has confirmed Hughes is working hard on improving the squad behind the scenes.
Liverpool kick off the 2024-25 campaign away at Ipswich Town on Saturday (17 August) in the Dutchman’s first competitive fixture in charge on Merseyside.
Liverpool must wrap up first summer deal by next week, says Wyness
Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I’ve defended Liverpool taking their time to review the squad and work with the new manager and sporting director.
“They’ve still got time, but the clock is starting to tick for them.
“It’s now around two weeks to go, and I would start to get concerned if they’re in the same situation next week.

“Time pressure then does start to become a factor – that goes for every negotiation.
“But there is still the ability to craft deals.”
