Liverpool told to hijack Nicolo Barella deal after £70m reveal – pundit
Liverpool should look to hijack Newcastle’s transfer for Nicolo Barella.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has urged Liverpool to explore a deal for the Italian international as he would suit Jurgen Klopp’s system.
Football Insider revealed on Saturday (17 June) that Inter Milan midfielder Barella is keen to join Newcastle United this summer.
Football Insider also revealed on Friday (16 June) that the Magpies must smash their transfer record to meet Inter’s £70million asking price for Barella.
However, it is believed that Newcastle are only willing to pay £50million for the Italy international’s services, and have already looked to pursue Barella’s international teammate Sandro Tonali.
With a deal for Barella hanging in the balance, Agbonlahor believes that is is a great opportunity for Liverpool to explore a deal for the midfielder.
“That’s who Liverpool need, a number eight like him, wow, what a signing,” He told Football Insider.
“You want someone who’s got European experience, and who has played in European competitions, and Barella has that as he led Inter all the way to a Champions League Final.

“I think it’s a no brainer for Newcastle or Liverpool, but he suits the Reds a bit more.”
“He can play next to Alexis McAllister with a player behind them, and I think he is class – he has energy as well as great work rate, and he’s got great quality on the ball, but it will be good to see which team he chooses.”
