Liverpool turn down deal to sign ‘next Kylian Mbappe’ – sources

Liverpool have turned down the opportunity to sign Palmeiras forward Luis Guilherme this summer as he closes in on a move to West Ham, sources have told Football Insider.

Despite scouting the 18-year-old extensively, the Reds have decided not to pursue his signature after being made aware of his availability.

West Ham are now edging closer to signing the Brazilian following negotiations over the weekend, as talks with the player continue.

Julen Lopetegui’s side are confident of completing a deal to sign him for well below his £47million release clause.

He had previously been dubbed the “next Kylian Mbappe”, largely due to an impressive top speed of 36.4km/h clocked in 2022 – as reported by Football Insider.

Liverpool say no to Luis Guilherme deal after West Ham news

Guilherme has progressed through the youth ranks at Palmeiras alongside Brazilian wonder Endrick, who is set to arrive at Real Madrid this summer.

Able to play on either wing as well as through the middle and even in attacking midfield, Guilherme remains a raw talent with plenty of room to grow.

Across all competitions this season, he has featured in 18 games, although he averaged just 37.5 minutes per game, scoring one goal and providing one assist.

This is his second season playing senior football after featuring 28 times in 2023, although he averaged even fewer minutes per game at just 26.

Liverpool

Liverpool have been tracking Guilherme’s progress for some time, with Football Insider revealing in February that a “huge” effort had gone into scouting him.

However, the newly restructured recruitment team at Anfield has now decided against the deal.

In other news, Man United could now make a sensational U-turn on Erik ten Hag’s future.
