Liverpool work on signing specific player profile after Michael Edwards vow
Liverpool will look to avoid mistakes made in the transfer market last summer after they missed out on signing Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke explained that the new-look recruitment team at Anfield faces pressure to back Arne Slot in the transfer market.
The surprise arrival of Wataru Endo last summer came as a result of missing out on other key targets, with Michael Edwards keen to avoid a repeat this year.
Sources say Liverpool will target players under the age of 25 this summer, with Edwards and Richard Hughes heading a data-based scouting and recruitment system.
Liverpool keen to avoid Wataru Endo mistake this summer
Endo made 20 Premier League starts among 44 appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s side last season, helping them to win the League Cup, but defensive midfield remains an area of concern.
The 31-year-old was considered a short-term solution when signed last summer.
Football Insider reported on 3 June that the club are plotting a move to sign a replacement for the Japan international just one year after his arrival.
Missing out on key targets Caicedo and Lavia meant the position would be a priority again this summer, with the new recruitment team lining up deals.
Klopp’s exit and the arrival of Slot have added pressure, with the new boss looking to shape the team in his image amid an overhaul at Anfield.

Edwards and Hughes have now established their transfer plans ahead of the summer window and will not make the same mistakes seen with Endo’s arrival last summer.
