Report: Liverpool set for summer battle with PL rivals for international attacker wonderkid
Liverpool’s pursuit of Borussia Dortmund star Christian Pulisic has taken a hit as Manchester United have joined the race for his signature.
This week’s SportBild reported that both the Red Devils and Bayern Munich are heavily interested in signing the American.
Klopp has been a long-term admirer of the 19-year-old, and it is reported that he has the backing of Fenway Sports Group, who share nationality with Pulisic.
With the sale of Philippe Coutinho completed, Klopp has access to the funds necessary to pry Pulisic from Dortmund, as a large sum is more than likely needed.
However, as the Reds know all too well, the call to play for either Manchester United or Bayern Munich can be very tempting for young players.
Football Insider verdict:
Christian Pulisic is emerging as a wonderful talent over in Germany, it is such a shame his USA senior team did not qualify for the World Cup this year as he will not get to test his skills on the world’s biggest stage. It is remarkable how far the 19-year-old’s development has come at his young age, and Klopp has a rapport for nourishing young talent. A summer deal would benefit all parties, as Dortmund retain his services to help push on from a very mediocre season, whilst Klopp gets to watch him develop further for another six months. The American link with FSG is a bonus for the Reds, it’s just a matter of whether or not Liverpool can beat United and Bayern to the chase.
In other Liverpool transfer news, it has been reported that the Reds are ready to pounce on this Arsenal midfielder.
