Hits or misses? Liverpool seven summer signings rated
By Emma Sanders
The January transfer window opens in just 23 days and Liverpool have already been linked with a whole host of fresh faces.
Football Insider analyses which summer buys were hits and which ones were misses:
Marko Grujic – £4million 6 (HIT)
The young Serbian is yet to make his bow in the Premier League but he produced some encouraging displays in pre-season and will no doubt get more opportunities in the cup throughout the season.
Loris Karius – £4.7million – 5 (MISS)

The Reds’ number one has made more of an impression on the ladies than the football pitch. He’s been poor at set-pieces and looks very nervous. Not much of an improvement on Simon Mignolet but still young.
Ragnar Klavan – £4.2million – 5
The experienced centre-back was always going to be a squad player but it was worrying signs when Lucas was selected ahead of him for Liverpool’s 4-3 defeat against Bournemouth last week. He hasn’t looked very assured.
Joel Matip – Free – 9 (HIT)
Without a doubt one of the best signings of the summer. He’s Liverpool’s best defender by some mile and they haven’t lost a single game with him in the side and he was free! Pick of the bunch.
Alex Manninger – Free – 4 (MISS)
Liverpool’s third choice keeper has yet to play a game under Jurgen Klopp but that was expected.
Sadio Mane – £34million – 9 (HIT)
Alongside Matip, Mane has been a fantastic signing. He was awarded the club’s Player of the Month in August after scoring a sensational debut goal against Arsenal. Has already netted seven league goals and provided three assists.
Giorginio Wijnaldum – £25million – 8 (HIT)
The midfielder has made a good impression since joining from Newcastle. He’s looked assured alongside Jordan Henderson and he should be starting ahead of Emre Can.
In other Liverpool news, Klopp has promised further opportunities to this youngster in January.
