Lloris ‘news’ expected within days after Tottenham source’s ‘surprise’ update – pundit
Paddy Kenny can’t understand why Hugo Lloris has not already been handed a new contract by Tottenham.
The former Leeds United stopper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted to a fresh update on the goalkeeper from Antonio Conte.
This site revealed on 11 December that Lloris has opened talks with Tottenham over a new long-term deal as he looks to extend his nine-year spell at the club.
A Spurs source has told Football Insider that the Frenchman wants to commit to another contract that would take him into his late 30s.
The 35-year-old is out of contract in the summer and is now free to agree a pre-contract with a foreign club.
As quoted by Alasdair Gold after the 1-0 win over Watford on New Year’s Day, Conte claimed he was “sure” Tottenham can “find a solution” to Lloris’ current situation.
Foot Mercato reported on Wednesday (29 December) that Nice want Lloris to join them on a free in the summer.
Kenny insists Tottenham should do everything to agree a new contract with their stopper.
“I would be very surprised if Tottenham let him go,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“I don’t know why they would want to, he’s still a very, very good goalkeeper.
“It’s not like he’s in and out of the team, he’s the number one. He plays every week in the Premier League.
“I’m surprised something hasn’t been agreed already. If he goes they will have to spend big to replace him.
“Either that or give one of the best keepers in the league a new two or three-year deal.
“It doesn’t make sense to me, it would if he wasn’t playing. He’s one of their best and most consistent players.
“The fans want this done soI expect there will be news in the next week or so.”

Lloris is yet to miss a minute of Premier League action this season.
He has now kept eight clean sheets following his side’s last-gasp win over Watford.
