Lord Sugar posts three-word Twitter message on Tottenham chances of finishing above Arsenal

By Will Butcher

Tottenham are becoming increasingly likely to finish above bitter rivals Arsenal in the Premier League table but Lord Sugar is desperate not to jinx it.

Former Spurs chairman Sugar watched on as Mauricio Pochettino’s side secured a 2-1 victory over Southampton on Sunday, after Arsenal had been beaten 3-1 by West Brom on Saturday.

Replying to a fan on his personal Twitter account, Sugar said “don’t tempt fate” despite seeing his former side go nine points clear of the Gunners.

Goals from Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli secured victory for Spurs against Claude Puel’s Southampton, with James Ward-Prowse giving the Saints hope but to no avail.

Spurs have failed to finish above Arsenal for the last 21 Premier League seasons, with Arsene Wenger’s side picking up three league titles during that time.

However, the Gunners are now in a lowly sixth position in the table, and although they have a game in hand, they remain a huge nine points behind second placed Spurs.

In what will be an exciting run in to see who finishes higher, Tottenham will look to strike a deadly blow to Arsenal’s chances on April 30 when the two sides meet at White Hart Lane.

The loss of Harry Kane is likely to prove pivotal in Spurs’ attempts at finishing above Arsenal, but fans will be optimistic that they can cope without their star striker following Sunday’s win.
