Celtic fans onboard with shock possibility of O’Neill becoming the permanent boss

Despite the hierarchy’s pursuits of the next manager to lead the Glaswegian side to success, supporters have been pleasantly surprised by the impact of the 73-year-old.

Sources told Football Insider that O’Neill is closer to becoming the permanent Celtic manager following the victory over the Gers in the League Cup.

The former Aston Villa boss has inspired a sense of camaraderie and belief that has resonated with the players in their performances, exciting supporters over his potential long-term stay.

One Celtic fan spoke on the promising possibility of extending O’Neill’s stay in Scotland, saying: “We should at least be sounding Martin O’Neill out. I don’t think you’ll find a Celtic fan opposed to the idea of him holding on to the reins until the end of the season at least. If he’s up for it, offer him a rolling contract, pay him what Rodgers was on. Worth every penny.”

Other supporters were intrigued by the prospect of the Northern Irishman assuming the full-time gig, with one stating: “Give him it to the end of the season if he’ll take it!” and another adding: “Celtic should just announce Martin O’Neill til the end of the season!!”

Moreover, with the Hoops in the final against St Mirren, a genuine chance of trophies has now entered fans’ minds, with one highlighting: “I said it when he was appointed but I think Martin O’Neill should be given to the end of the season with Celtic because it will end with a lot of silverware.”
