Luca Stephenson: Rangers and Celtic race to sign on-loan Liverpool star

Rangers and Celtic have joined the race to sign Liverpool star Luca Stephenson after keeping tabs on his performances for Dundee United, sources have told Football Insider.

The 22-year-old has impressed in the Scottish Premiership this season with the Old Firm clubs now tracking his progress ahead of a potential summer move.

Despite being highly regarded at Anfield, the right-back has spent the last two seasons at Tannadice Park, and could be allowed to move on permanently for the right price.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, Rangers are plotting a move for Stephenson ahead of the transfer window.

James Tavernier’s long-term future at Ibrox is up in the air, and the position has emerged as a priority target as Rangers put new transfer plans in place.

Football Insider revealed last month that Tavernier’s future at Rangers is still uncertain, with contract talks delayed amid doubts over his age.

Stephenson has been identified as a potential long-term replacement for the captain, and Rangers are now prepared to join the race for his signature.

After an impressive season on loan at Dundee United, interest in the 22-year-old is expected to skyrocket in the summer, with clubs in England also interested.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “

Rangers plan to block Tuur Rommens exit

Despite what could be a turbulent summer in the right-back position at Ibrox, with speculation around both Tavernier and Stephenson, questions are also being asked at left-back.

Tuur Rommens has made a significant impact since his arrival from Westerlo in the January transfer window, and Rangers now hope to keep hold of him.

Football Insider revealed on 26 March that Rangers are not concerned about Rommens’ future and are confident behind the scenes that he will stay.

Rangers understand that players of his quality will always attract interest from elsewhere, but believe they are in a strong position to keep hold of him.

Rommens has already become a fans’ favourite in the early stages of his time at Rangers, and he is set to play a key role in their push to win the title.
