Luke Ayling pulls no punches when analysing Leeds display against Birmingham

By Amir Mir

Luke Ayling has honestly admitted that Leeds were not at their best during their 3-1 win against Birmingham City on Friday night.

Right-back Ayling started the match and was involved in the opening goal when his ball over the top allowed striker Chris Wood to dink the ball over the on-rushing keeper.

Thereafter, it was a poor display from both sets of teams with no flow or rhythm to either side as they struggled to keep hold of the ball.

After the break, Craig Gardner struck an equaliser for the home team, but the in-form Wood scored his 22nd of the campaign just three minutes later to give his side the lead.

The game was all but sealed nine minutes from the full-time whistle when substitute Alfonso Pedraza scored his first goal for the club.

Here was Ayling, who played the full match, pulling no punches when analysing the Whites’ performance in their Championship clash.

“Sometimes you have to win when you are not at your best,” Ayling wrote on his personal Twitter account. “Tonight was one of them nights. Three points most important thing.”

The three points are no doubt hugely significant to the club’s season because it means they move a step closer to securing a play-off place.

It has been 13 years since the Yorkshire club last tasted Premier League football, with trips to the third tier and constant struggles in the Championship since then regularly occurring.

However, following the appointment of former Swansea manager Garry Monk in the summer, the highly-rated coach has changed the fortunes around at the Elland Road club and has guided them to promotion hopefuls.
