Luke Ayling has responded humorously on Twitter after it was revealed he has made the most tackles from a defender in the Championship this season.

The 25-year-old ace has made an impressive 102 tackles during this campaign, mainly playing at right-back, though he has played at the heart of the club’s defence at times.

The hard-hitting player joked that most of his tackles for the Yorkshire outfit were “touch” tackles.

Ayling has been a regular starter under Garry Monk this season as the former Premier League manager has guided his team to promotion challengers.

They are on the verge of securing a play-off place, which will give them a big opportunity to fight for a place in the top flight.

Nonetheless, when Ayling was informed that he has made the most tackles from his defensive counterparts this season, this was his response.

Ayling has been part of a back four that has regularly consisted of Pontus Jansson, Kyle Bartley and Gaetano Berardi with the experienced Rob Green between the sticks.

Furthermore, youngster Charlie Taylor has also been part of that defensive line but he has missed a good chunk of the season through injury.

Monk’s side have played 38 games this season where they have picked up 69 points, winning 21, drawing six and losing 11 of their encounters.

Furthermore, during that period they have conceded 36 goals, only the top two, Brighton and Newcastle have conceded less.

Prior to the international break, the Yorkshire club secured a valuable 2-0 win against second-placed Brighton.

In other Leeds news, the club should look to sign one of these three defensive-minded midfielders to replace this overrated first teamer.
