Luke Shaw: Man United set sights on new left-back signing

Luke Shaw’s contract situation means that Manchester United are lining up a new left-back signing this summer.

Shaw is nearing the final year of his current contract at Man United, with talks yet to be held about a potential extension.

He has returned to full fitness and strong form this season, with starts in all 31 of the Red Devils’ Premier League matches so far in this campaign.

Despite his decent showings, as I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, United are looking to sign a new left-back to compete with him next term.

Patrick Dorgu is set to play a more advanced role, while Tyrell Malacia is likely to leave at the end of his deal, so United’s transfer plans will centre around securing a new left-back.

Man United want to strengthen left-back depth despite Luke Shaw’s form

Shaw was linked with a move away from Old Trafford last summer as United reportedly targeted Fulham star Antonee Robinson.

He remained at the club, though, and has shone under Michael Carrick in recent months, but the club still want to plan ahead for if he leaves for free next year.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “(Left-back) looks like it’s an area of the team that Man United are planning to strengthen in. They want cover and competition for Luke Shaw.

“Obviously, Shaw’s had a good season this season, but we know he has had his injury problems at Old Trafford as well, and he hasn’t got much longer to run on his contract.”

United to battle Everton for Arsenal’s Myles Lewis-Skelly

Lewis-Skelly emerged as one of the best young stars in the Premier League last season, but has been restricted to just 14 league appearances so far this term.

Sources have exclusively revealed to Football Insider that United are interested in Lewis-Skelly, with Everton also tracking him ahead of the summer.

The 19-year-old is believed to be considering his future at the Emirates Stadium after a frustrating campaign, and much like Shaw, he looks set to miss out on going to the World Cup with England.
