Maguire facing Man United axe v Man City after Telegraph news - pundit
Harry Maguire is struggling under the “pressure” of being the “main man” in the Manchester United defence, according to Kevin Phillips.
The former Sunderland striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 28-year-old could be dropped for this weekend’s derby clash against Manchester City.
According to the Telegraph (November 3rd), Maguire was rushed back from a calf injury ’10 days early’ when he faced old club Leicester City last month.
United were beaten 4-2 away from home by the Foxes.
The report claims the defender had just one day’s training on grass before facing Brendan Rodgers’ side.
Phillips claims Maguire is “unfortunate” to have been thrust into the spotlight by Man United’s “poor form”.

“These England internationals and players who play every minute for their clubs, there is a trend there,” he told Football Insider’s Dylan Childs.
“Look at Harry Kane, for example, he’s not been the same since the summer.
“Tyrone Mings is another one – even if he didn’t play too many minutes. These internationals have suffered a loss of form.
“Harry Maguire is the same – he’s only human. Fatigue starts to creep in after you play the first part of the season on adrenaline.
“He’s played an awful lot of football for Man United, and there’s the pressure of being the main man at the back for the club.
“Maybe Harry needs to come out for a game or two and assess it. It can do you the world of good.
“We know what a quality player he is. It’s just unfortunate that he’s been put under the spotlight by the poor form Man United have been in.
