Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce has said key men Jonathan Kodjia and Josh Onomah are “major concerns” for the visit of Sheffield Wednesday this weekend.
Kodjia has struggled with injury so far this season, missing Villa’s first six games in the Championship with an ankle injury, and it is the same ankle that is again a concern after the Ivory Coast hitman rolled it during the 0-0 draw with Birmingham.
Spurs loanee Onomah has been a mainstay in Villa’s midfield this term, making 16 appearances in all competitions, but he could miss out against the Owls after limping off during Villa’s 2-0 win over Preston on Wednesday night.
When asked about Kodjia’s being fit for the weekend’s game, Bruce told Villa’s official website: “Possibly. We will see how he is tomorrow.”
Bruce continued: “We will see how Josh Onomah is, too. He has a sore groin.
“They are the major concerns.”
Kodjia missed out against Preston as Villa ran out 2-0 winners thanks to goals from James Chester and Robert Snodgrass, and the victory lifted Bruce’s side back in to the Championship play-off places.
Villa now sit eight points behind leaders Wolves as they look to gain promotion back to the Premier League during their second Championship season.
In other Aston Villa news, fans raged on Twitter over this decision during their win over Preston.
