Celtic fans on Twitter have laughed off reports linking Brendan Rodgers to Premier League strugglers Southampton.

The Scottish Sun reported that the team currently one point and one place above the relegation zone were interested in replacing the sacked Mauricio Pellegrino, who was dismissed on Monday night.

It is understood that Rodgers is earning £2.5million-a-year at Parkhead, which translates to around £48,000-a-week.

However, it’s safe to say that supporters on social media weren’t impressed by the reports, with one claiming that the press are “having a laugh” with the story.

It seems unlikely that Rodgers would swap a potential Champions League campaign with Celtic for a potential season in the Championship with the struggling English side.

There’s no doubt that the Hoops boss would like to have another crack at England, after his time at Liverpool ended badly despite taking them to the brink of the Premier League title.

Rodgers also had a fairly successful spell at Swansea where he got them promoted to the Premier League and firmly established in the division.

For now though, supporters would be better off ignoring the reports and concentrating on the Hoops aiming to clinch their second consecutive domestic treble, as that will be what Rodgers is doing.
