Brendan Rodgers slaughters officials after Celtic decisions, questions if they know rules
Brendan Rodgers has questioned if referees and assistant referees know the rules of the game after some glaring errors they have made in matches involving Celtic.
Rodgers was upset by Hearts’ opening goal in their 4-0 win over the Hoops at Tynecastle in December.
“We didn’t play well, we obviously conceded the first goal – which the linesman wasn’t so good on which gave them a head start” he said, as quoted by the Daily Record.
“Don Cowie has taken a corner from the other side. Craig Gordon, not thinking he can ever get there, is on his line to take the goal kick, makes the pass and Don comes running through the box.
“The linesman is looking right at it. But instead of ordering a retake says play on. After that there’s no excuse, we give the ball away and they score.”
He was also upset with a decision involving Leigh Griffiths in the recent 2-1 win over Partick Thistle.
“Then there’s the one the other night, Leigh Griffiths at a throw-in and it’s given offside. It’s incredible – it makes me wonder if the officials know the rules.”
Rodgers will be looking for revenge over Hearts when the Bhoys take on the Edinburgh side at Celtic Park, on Tuesday night.
The defeat at Tynecastle in December was not only the Hoops’ first of the season but it also brought their British record unbeaten domestic run to an end at 69 games.
The Bhoys go into the game still 11 points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership table following a costly 1-0 win over Hibernian.
The Celts suffered two major injury blows in the game, with goalscorer Leigh Griffiths forced off with another calf problem shortly after scoring the only goal of the game.
And goalkeeper Craig Gordon was substituted at half-time following a clash with Efe Ambrose which has left-him with a serious knee injury.
Brendan Rodgers may well dip into the transfer market to replace both players before the January Window closes.
