Man City could be about to ‘ruin Man United’s Marcus Rashford plan’

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Man United’s plan to ship Marcus Rashford out could be “ruined” if Kyle Walker leaves Man City for AC Milan.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 67-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed the block would be an “unintended consequence” but a “very happy one for City”.

Walker has communicated his desire to leave Man City this month and AC Milan have emerged as the frontrunners to sign the 34-year-old.

Meanwhile, Milan have also been heavily linked with a swoop for Rashford – with United extremely keen to get the forward a move away from Old Trafford before the 3 February transfer deadline.

Serie A rules mean the Rossoneri will only be able to sign one of the two in this window as both players are classed as non-EU players following Brexit.

Walker’s Man City exit could block Rashford switch, says Wyness

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “Kyle’s wages are significant, but they are no problem for City.

“What intrigued me about this is the knock-on effect for Man United.

“If he goes to AC Milan, they only have room for a certain number of non-EU players. That could mean Rashford does not go there.

“I think that’s a very interesting effect. City could actually ruin United’s plans of moving Rashford on.

“It’s an unintended consequence, but it’ll be a very happy one for City.

“City won’t be worried about making room in their budget by letting Walker go, in any case. They’ve got plenty of room.”
