Man City news: Pundit can’t believe Raheem Sterling could quit for Premier League rivals

Raheem Sterling could join a Spanish heavyweight this summer if Man City decide to cash in, according to Alan Hutton.

The former Scotland international, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, admitted he cannot see the 27-year-old joining another Premier League side.

As reported by the Daily Star on Saturday (26 March), City are reluctantly willing to listen to offers of around £80million for Sterling this summer as he heads into the final year of his contract.

Man City

The reigning Premier League champions have been unable to agree terms over a new deal and so risk losing him on a free in 2023.

According to the Athletic (21 January), Sterling is not willing to commit with doubts over his playing time under Pep Guardiola.

Hutton suggested a move abroad, possibly to Spain, could be on the cards.

Asked where he could see Sterling move next, Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “I always find it difficult thinking of different Premier League teams.

“You think of his legacy at Man City and him, not ruining it, but tarnishing it a little bit.

“You always hear these rumours of the likes of Barcelona and teams like that. Again, money could be a problem.

“I could see him playing in a different country like Spain. Whether he signs with City or not, whatever team he chooses to go to I think he’ll be a massive hit.”

Man City

The Athletic claimed Barcelona showed interest in signing Sterling, as well as four other City players, last summer.

The Catalan giants did manage to prise Ferran Torres away from Manchester in January.
