Man City news: Pundit cites Arsenal after Bernardo Silva transfer update

Frank McAvennie has claimed Man City will be reluctant to let Bernardo Silva leave after selling Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko to Arsenal.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker said Silva is a “damn good player” that Pep Guardiola will be desperate to keep in his squad.

Silva has started on the bench for City’s first two Premier League games.

According to Spanish outlet SPORT, reported in the Manchester Evening News (13 August), Barcelona are confident of signing the 28-year-old for lower than City’s asking price.

The La Liga side are said to be confident of signing the midfielder for £54million, nearly £30million less than the Manchester club’s £80million asking price.

Guardoila has made it clear that he would “love” to hold on the player but admitted anything can happen in the remaining weeks of the transfer window.

In an interview with ESPN on Monday (10 August), Silva refused to rule out a move away from the Etihad.

Silva currently has three years remaining on his current contract.

When asked if Pep Guardiola’s side would be willing to sell Silva for the right price, McAvennie told Football Insider: “I don’t think so.

They’ve just let two players go to Arsenal so I wouldn’t think they’ll be wanting to let any more go.

I think he’s a damn good player as well. So I wouldn’t think they would want to let him leave.”

In other news, a pundit has suggested Erling Haaland may have held behind-the-scenes talks with Man City teammate as footage emerges.
