Man City news: Stefan Borson taken aback by Pep Guardiola decision

Pep Guardiola has made a “lovely” gesture after gifting £10,000 to each member of Manchester City’s support staff.

That is the view of former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider he has never heard of a club official giving away so much money to the behind-the-scenes staff.

The Times reported on 28 August Guardiola has paid £10,000 to every member of the Premier League champions’ support staff in the first-team building at the club’s training base.

There are believed to be between 60-70 people working in the building, including chefs, receptionists, physiotherapists, kit staff, baristas and security.

The Catalan often uses his pre-match press conferences to highlight the work that goes in behind the scenes to help the club be successful on the pitch.

Man City claimed their fourth consecutive Premier League title last season and are currently top of the table after the opening three matches.

Pep Guardiola has shown generosity to Man City staff

Borson believes it was generous from Guardiola to show recognition to the club’s staff for the role they play.

“I have never heard of it before,” Borson told Football Insider.

“I remember Sergio Aguero gave away his car to one of the support staff before he left.

“I think he held a ballot and just gave it to somebody, which was a nice gesture.

“But to give £700,000, that’s pretty generous.

“He’s a wealthy guy, so it’s hard to judge how it feels to give away £700,000 if you are as wealthy as Guardiola.

“But it’s a lovely gesture if it’s all true.”
