Man City points deduction: Fans rage at ‘corrupt’ PL after confirmed news
Nottingham Forest fans are expecting Man City to get away with their financial breaches after what Richard Masters said.
The Premier League CEO explained that the hearing in their case against Man City is likely to begin soon, although there was a lack of clarity or certainty about the outcome.
When asked whether City would be published last season, Masters simply responded: “You’re asking me to speculate and I simply can’t do that.
“I agree that it does need to be resolved, but it’s not in our hands. We must let the independent panel get on with it. I understand it creates uncertainty and frustration, but there is no alternative to the rules.
“We are enforcing them, and it’s our job to continue to enforce them fairly and proportionately. We will continue to do so, but I can’t speculate and no decision has been taken.”
This has led to speculation about what, if any, punishment the current Premier League champions will receive for their 115 financial breaches.
Nottingham Forest and Everton fans are watching especially closely after both clubs were handed heavy points deductions for their own breaches last season.
Newcastle, Aston Villa and Leicester City will also be keeping tabs on the situation, with each club experiencing their own financial issues during the summer.
After Masters’ interview was shared on social media, fans have continued to question how City will be dealt with, and why it has taken so long.
Nottingham Forest fans all say the same thing as Man City PSR twist emerges
Man City were charged with 115 breaches of financial rules in February 2023 and finally look set to learn their fate in the coming months.
During that time, Forest have seen four points deducted for one breach of the rules, while Everton saw two separate deductions of six and two points for their two breaches.
As a result, many think City should face punishment in line with the two already given, which would likely see them relegated from the Premier League.
However, there is an underlying expectation and concern amongst fans that they will somehow get away with it – with fans taking to social media to express their views.
In other news, Newcastle are still plotting a move to sign Anthony Elanga.
