Man City superstar trio to quit after deal agreed – Stefan Borson

Manchester City stars Kyle Walker, Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan will definitely leave the club within the next two years after Pep Guardiola has signed a new contract.

That is the view of former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider the Catalan boss will now have the chance to oversee a rebuild with incoming director of football Hugo Viana after he’s been confirmed as Txiki Begiristain’s replacement.

The Premier League champions announced on 21 November Guardiola has penned a new two-year deal with the club after his contract was due to expire at the end of this season.

Man City are, however, going through a tough spell on the pitch after their 4-0 defeat against Tottenham on Saturday meant they have now lost five games in a row.

There have been questions asked around the futures of some senior players, with De Bruyne, 33, and Gundogan, 34, out of contract in June 2025, while Walker, 34, has a deal until June 2026.

Borson doesn’t believe there is any chance the experienced trio will remain at the Etihad beyond the next two years.

He told Football Insider: “I think Guardiola’s contract is good for the stability because to try and have succession issues at the director of football level and also the first-team coach level is a very difficult thing to manage and negotiate.

“City will at least now know that only one is changing at each time, so they will have the opportunity for Hugo Viana to work together with Guardiola and the rest of the team to really rebuild over the next two years.

“I think there are a number of players who are ageing.

“These will be the final two years on any basis of those players.

“It may even be the final year, but they definitely won’t see out more than two years.

“That phase of the rebuild can be done with Guardiola in place.”
