‘Man City to sign perfect Ederson replacement’ – fans react to journalist’s update

Man City fans are urging the club to sign a new long-term goalkeeper as Ederson continues to be linked with a summer exit

Ederson has been Manchester City’s first-choice goalkeeper ever since his arrival from Benfica, but at 31, questions over his long-term future at the club are starting to grow louder.

Football Insider revealed Ederson is now increasingly likely to leave Man City at the end of the season, with no new contract talks currently planned.

His existing deal runs until June 2026, but with the club not expected to extend it, this summer may be their final chance to secure a significant fee.

In response, Man City appear to already be identifying potential replacements, which is something that has excited fans, many of whom are calling for a younger goalkeeper to be brought in to secure the future of the position.

Man City identify Porto’s Diogo Costa as Ederson replacement

Florian Plettenberg, a journalist for Sky Sports, revealed on X that with Ederson’s future uncertain, City have turned their attention to 25-year-old Diogo Costa as a potential successor.

Plettenberg added that “talks and negotiations are ongoing” between City and the Portuguese goalkeeper, with the club keen to secure a deal ahead of the summer window.

Ederson was strongly linked with a move to Saudi Arabia last summer and while a transfer didn’t go through at the time, interest from the Saudi Pro League is expected to resurface in the coming months.

Football Insider first reported Man City’s interest in Costa back in October, but it now appears that the Premier League champions are preparing to move forward in their pursuit.

Man City fans back Diogo Costa as ideal Ederson successor

Costa has a £63 million release clause in his current contract, but City are expected to explore a lower fee or a structured deal involving instalments.

Ederson could be one of several high-profile departures this summer, with Kevin De Bruyne already confirmed to leave Man City and both Bernardo Silva and Jack Grealish facing uncertain futures.

With neither Ederson nor Stefan Ortega seen as long-term options beyond this season, Costa is now emerging as the preferred target, and fans are already getting behind the idea.

One supporter responded to the news: “He is the best guy to replace Eddie [Ederson]” while another added: “Finally. A keeper that can actually save.”
