Man City twist: Pundit can't believe Haaland news emerging from Spanish TV channel
Frank McAvennie has claimed Man City star Erling Haaland will be learning Spanish to “annoy people” and can’t believe he is doing so because of Pep Guardiola.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker said it is “unnecessary” for Haaland to be learning the language to improve his relationship with Guardiola given that he speaks perfect English.
As reported by Spanish outlet Diario AS (9 November), the 22-year-old is taking Spanish classes to aid his working relationship with Guardiola, whose backroom staff is made up entirely of Spanish speakers.
The striker is also said to have begun the lessons before he joined the Manchester giants.
City also have a number of players who speak Spanish including Aymeric Laporte, Sergio Gomez, Julian Alvarez and Bernardo Silva among others.
According to El Chiringuito TV (4 October), Real Madrid are interested in taking advantage of a release clause in Haaland’s contract that would see him available in 2024 for £175million.

The Norwegian’s current contract at the Etihad runs until 2027 and with 23 goals in 18 games City will be desperate to hold onto him for as long as possible.
McAvennie suggested Haaland’s Spanish lessons will increase speculation about a move to Spain.
“It is a bit unnecessary,” he told Football Insider.
“It is a lot of rubbish. He will be doing it just for the sake of it. Pep talks perfect English, he has been here for years.
“He is probably just wanting to speak Spanish because it will annoy people. People will be saying he is going to Real Madrid or Barcelona because he is learning Spanish. Some people just like to learn another language.“
