Kieran Maguire: Woodward in line for new role at Man United as Glazers 'reward'
Ed Woodward could stay on in a consultancy role at Man United as a “reward” for his loyalty to the Glazers throughout his premiership.
That is according to finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the controversial outgoing chief executive.
Woodward announced in April that he would step down at the end of the year following the fallout from the botched Super League plot.
But The Times reported on 29 October that Woodward could continue to have a link with United in a consultancy role.
Managing director Richard Arnold is currently the favourite to take over from Woodward and it is claimed that a final decision is imminent.
Maguire suggests that United fans need not fret about Woodward acting as a proxy CEO from his consultancy role.

“I don’t think United fans have too much to worry about,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.
“Joel Glazer is really the key decision-maker. Woodward is puppet rather than puppetmaster.
“All the major decisions had to be rubber-stamped by Joel, and to a lesser extent, Avram Glazer.
“If he is staying on, it is probably as a reward for being the lightning rod for the unhappiness of the Man United fans during the Glazers’ ownership.
“He has acted as a deflector for a lot of the ire directed towards them. Arnold will likely be in the same vein as Woodward if he takes over.”
