Man United close in on Manuel Ugarte – sources

Man United are close to completing the signing of PSG midfielder Manuel Ugarte after new talks, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that PSG being open to a loan move this summer has gone “a long way to getting the deal over the line.”

The French outfit are now open to allowing the 23-year-old to leave the club on a loan move this summer, while adding an obligation to buy in the clause for United next summer.

This has been a sticking point for the Premier League giants as they haven’t been keen to pay the £50million asking price.

United would have had to sell players to raise the funds to make a permanent deal happen this summer, but the latest twist has opened it up as the deal fits better for them.

Sources at United expect the transfer to be completed before the 31st August cut-off as Erik ten Hag aims to enhance his midfield options.

Ugarte is keen on moving to England, as he has fallen down the pecking order with the French outfit.

Luis Enrique doesn’t count on him, and Ugarte didn’t feature in the match-day squad for PSG’s first game of the season last weekend.

Sources claim that a move is inching closer, and United see it as a positive that they are signing him on their terms.

The defensive midfielder featured regularly throughout last season, making 37 games in all competitions for PSG.

United want to sign a proven midfielder who can instantly slot into the team and compete with the current options.

The 20-time champions are still looking to offload some players from their squad as well, with Christian Eriksen set for the exit door.

Football Insider revealed that United are willing to accept a £5million offer for the experienced midfielder before the transfer window closes.
