Man United ‘confident’ of securing marquee signing after new talks – sources

Manchester United are “confident” of agreeing a marquee striker signing in the next two weeks, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider revealed Man United are holding talks today over a deal to sign Bologna forward Joshua Zirkzee following his impressive form in Serie A.

The Premier League giants are discussing terms with the 23-year-old’s camp and weighing up whether to activate his £33.8million release clause.

But Old Trafford chiefs have other striker targets on their shortlist and will turn their attention to those options if they can’t settle terms with Zirkzee, whose contract with Bologna is due to expire in 2026.

Man United plan marquee signing after Joshua Zirkzee talks

Zirkzee was previously earmarked as an exciting talent for the future after joining Bayern Munich’s academy from Feyenoord in 2017.

But despite making his debut for the Bundesliga giants aged 18 against Tottenham, he failed to kick on in Munich after playing just 17 games for the senior side, scoring four goals and laying on one assist.

Following a fruitful loan spell with Belgian club Anderlecht, the Dutchman joined Bologna for £7.2million in 2022.

Zirkzee scored 12 goals and laid on seven assists for the Italian side last season, helping them secure a place in the Champions League.

Man United have now held talks about a potential deal for Zirkzee, who is currently with the Netherlands squad at the European Championships after receiving a late call-up following injuries within the side.

Man United

The Manchester club are looking to bolster their forward options with a marquee signing after confirming Erik ten Hag will be their manager next season following the conclusion of their end-of-season review.

Football Insider revealed last month Old Trafford chiefs are willing to listen to offers for Marcus Rashford as they look to generate funds for potential new signings.
