Man United consider £34m offer for the next Vincent Kompany, Ruben Amorim knows him well

Manchester United are already beginning to think about their January transfer business just a week after the summer window closed.

Ruben Amorim added five new players to his squad, with a primary focus on adding firepower to a side which scored just 44 Premier League goals last season.

Man United signed Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig and added proven Premier League goal scorers Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha.

Amorim is now looking at strengthening his defence, with a target lined up ahead of a potential January move.

Man United consider £34m bid for Zeno Debast

As reported by Fichajes [8 September] Man United are targeting Sporting centre-back Zeno Debast, a player Amorim signed for the Portuguese club in 2024.

Debast has a release clause of £69.3million, but a bid is being considered by Man United in the region of £34.7m.

It is claimed “Sporting may be willing to negotiate a deal below that amount,” however “a move in January, at that price is unlikely given United’s lack of European football revenue.”

Man United lost to Spurs in the Europa League final in May and came 15th in the Premier League table meaning they are without European football this season.

Zeno Debast has been compared to Vincent Kompany

Debast has been compared to former Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany, his former manager at Anderlecht.

As per Goal, De Bast has the “same comfort in possession as his former coach, while he also shares a similar level of aggression when faced with an ariel duel, even if he needs to fill out to match Kompany’s physicality.”

Kompany won four Premier League titles in his time in Manchester, and made a huge impact in the heart of the Man City defence when arrived at the club in 2008.

Amorim would hope of a similar level of impact from 21-year-old Debast, though that would be a lot of pressure on his shoulders at Old Trafford.
