‘Man United could now sell Antony for ridiculous fee this summer’

Anthony’s superb performances on loan for Real Betis will help Manchester United to recoup some of the “ridiculous amount” they paid for him.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson said that Man United are well-placed to sell Antony this summer after he returns from Spain.

The Brazilian’s half-season loan to Betis in January brought the curtain down on a forgettable two-and-a-half-year period at Old Trafford, with United fans happy to see the back of their “worst ever signing”.

Robinson has now told Football Insider that Antony is “done” at Man United, and after eight goals and five assists for Betis in LaLiga and the Europa Conference League, his transfer value has sky-rocketed.

Antony‘s vastly-improved form away from Old Trafford may not save his Premier League career, but as the summer transfer window looms, Man United will be confident they can sell him for a healthy amount.

Antony ‘doing no harm’ to Man United transfer fee

Man City’s former financial advisor Stefan Borson told Football Insider last month that Antony is one of five players whom Man United will look to sell this summer, with a view to a much-needed PSR boost.

Speaking on the latest Inside Track, Robinson argued that while a half-season purple patch won’t be enough for United to recoup the £82million fee they paid Ajax in 2022, his displays for Betis could still attract several suitors with deep pockets.

“I think he’s done at Manchester United, Robinson told Football Insider.

“I think that Manchester United will move him on in the summer – and by the way, he’s not doing himself or Manchester United any harm [at Real Betis].

“All he’s doing is increasing his value, because people are now looking at him and thinking; ‘okay he’s a decent player, but maybe just not for the Premier League’.

“They might get some of the ridiculous amount that they paid for him.”

Antony saga a cautionary tale for Man United

It’s just the Red Devils’ luck that an £82m winger’s best form while under contract at Old Trafford has come during a loan spell in Spain, and Ruben Amorim will be keen to avoid similar scenarios in the future.

Fellow loanee Marcus Rashford has enlisted a “super agent” to facilitate a switch to Barcelona this summer, and if Antony can generate similar demand, United won’t struggle to get him off the books.

If Man United can recoup a fee north of £30m for Antony from Real Betis, Atletico Madrid or any other interested party, Amorim and Jim Ratcliffe will be happy to put a bizarre three-year saga behind them.
