Man United expected to hold ‘another round’ of Cristiano Ronaldo talks as footage emerges – pundit

Kevin Campbell suspects “another round of talks” between Cristiano Ronaldo and Erik ten Hag will take place at Man United this week.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker is adamant the 37-year-old will remain at Old Trafford for the remainder of this season.

The Red Devils lost 2-1 to Brighton in their first fixture of the new Premier League campaign on Sunday.

Ronaldo was named on the bench and, as shown on Sky Sports (7 August), cast a frustrated figure when the Seagulls took the lead.

The Portugal international was introduced eight minutes into the second half but he could not prevent an opening weekend defeat.

Campbell expects Ronaldo, who has made clear his desire to leave United this summer, to hold further negotiations with the club over his future this week.

“There has to be another round of talks,” he told Football Insider.

“Erik ten Hag needs to say to him, ‘Look, you are going nowhere. You need to knuckle down. You have a part to play here.’ He has signed a contract at the end of the day.

“Ronaldo is frustrated. That is clear.

“There are not many bigger clubs out there than Manchester United though. There is not many clubs coming in for him and that is because they cannot afford him. He is paid that well.

“I think there is going to have to be a bridge built. I think he will end up staying for the season, I really do.”
