Man United have dropped major ‘hint’ over Henderson’s future amid Leeds swoop on Wednesday – pundit

Dean Henderson has “every chance” of leaving Man United after the club scouted Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier.

That is the view of former Premier League striker Kevin Campbell, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, about the goalkeeping situation at Old Trafford.

According to the Daily Mail last Wednesday (15 December), United sent goalkeeping scout Tony Coton to watch Illan Meslier at Man City last week.

The news casts further doubt over the future of Dean Henderson, 24, who has struggled for game time behind David de Gea this season.

As revealed by Football Insider (16 November), Henderson told the club he wants to leave in January.

Campbell believes that still to be the case even though Ralf Rangnick has replaced Ole Gunnar Solskjaer since then.

“I think the fact Tony Coton is there, keeping an eye on Meslier, is a hint,” he told Football Insider.

“Meslier is a very, very good young goalkeeper. The great thing is, he is starting in the Premier League week in, week out at such a young age. I have been very impressed with the young man.

“Dean Henderson wants to play football. He is not happy being second choice.

“There is every chance he is going to leave the club and then United are back on the hunt for David de Gea’s long-term successor.”

Henderson has made just two senior appearances for United this season.

He has three-and-a-half years remaining on his contract.
