Man United have ‘new Roy Keane’ in their ranks after deal agreed – pundit

Cristiano Ronaldo will have the same impact as Roy Keane in the Man United dressing room, according to Danny Mills.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Man City and Leeds United defender insisted Ronaldo’s transformational impact will not only be on the pitch at Man United.

The Reds confirmed on deadline day that the iconic forward had completed his return to Old Trafford.

Football Insider reported on 27 August Ole Gunnar Solskjaer plans to use the 36-year-old as a centre-forward.

“Undoubtedly, he’s a fantastic goalscorer and he’s going to score goals,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“We saw that in the week for Portugal. If you create chances, he will score.

“What he brings is pressure on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and everyone else. Now, you’ve got [Raphael] Varane, [Jadon] Sancho and Ronaldo the expectation is you have to win things. Probably rightly so.

“He can have the Zlatan effect at Man United where people said ‘Oh, he’s old, is he going to have the impact?’ It’s not just on the pitch and during the 90 minutes. It’s the professionalism, the attitude, the desire to succeed.

“He will raise everyone else’s standards by 10 per cent. He’s a different personality but it’s like Roy Keane going back into that dressing room. There are certain standards that you have to adhere to.

“Ronaldo will expect that. He won’t accept second best or anything else other than that winning mentality.

“Although it brings pressure to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, for Manchester United and a lot of those young players it’s a really good signing.”
