‘Man United make Jonathan Tah transfer decision after agent talks’

Man United are unlikely to pursue a move to sign Jonathan Tah on a free transfer this summer, according to their former chief scout.

Mick Brown, who spent over a decade at Old Trafford during the club’s most successful period and remains very well-connected there, exclusively told Football Insider that the 29-year-old’s skillset would not be a good fit for Ruben Amorim’s system.

As a result, the likes of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are set to battle it out for his signature as his agent has held talks with a number of Europe’s top clubs.

The signing of a new centre-back has been a long-term aim for United amid links with moves to sign the likes of Jarrad Branthwaite and Marc Guehi.

However, they want to ensure they bring in the right fit for Amorim’s system and despite his leadership qualities and experience, Tah is not viewed as that player.

This comes after Football Insider revealed Newcastle United want to sign Tah but will struggle to compete with the likes of Madrid and Bayern.

Man United unlikely to sign Jonathan Tah after Amorim decision

Football Insider revealed last month that Man United are set to back Amorim with players who suit his system in the transfer market despite sack pressure.

Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment and also worked for the likes of Tottenham, Aston Villa and West Ham, explained that the club have been alerted to Tah’s availability but are unlikely to make a move.

Jonathan Tah won’t be a target for Man United,” he told Football Insider.

“He’s done well for Bayer Leverkusen and he’s very highly rated, lots of clubs like the look of him.

“He’s a good leader and he’s very experienced, so of course there is interest.

“The problem as far as United are concerned is that he’s a big, heavy, strong defender and not the type they want to fit Ruben Amorim’s team.

“His agent has been putting his name about and speaking to clubs across Europe.

“He’s been busy pushing him to these clubs, the likes of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, so United will have been alerted to his availability as well.

“But I can’t see that one happening, he’ll go to one of the other clubs involved.”

Harry Maguire contract update emerges at Old Trafford

Alongside their efforts to bolster Amorim’s squad this summer, particularly at centre-back, United are also putting plans in place to keep Harry Maguire at the club.

Brown told Football Insider on 7 May that United will offer Maguire a new contract, with his current deal set to expire at the end of next season.

The 32-year-old has established himself as a key member of Amorim’s squad and convinced the boss that he still has a long-term role to play.

This comes after Brown told Football Insider in January that Maguire would hold sit-down talks with Amorim about his future at the club.
