Man United: Matheus Cunha sends message to Casemiro after emotional Old Trafford goodbye post
Manchester United’s home crowd waved goodbye to Casemiro on Sunday as he took to the Old Trafford pitch for the final time in their 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest.
The Brazilian has been vastly improved over the course of the campaign, but the club ultimately opted against triggering the clause in his contract to extend his deal for another year.
The decision for the two parties to go their separate ways was confirmed several weeks ago, and the midfielder is now in his final days as a United player.
Casemiro starred for the Red Devils again as goals from Luke Shaw, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo saw them edge past Forest, a result which sealed a third-placed finish for Michael Carrick’s men.
Manchester United have relied heavily on Casemiro at times during the campaign, and emotions were running high as he took in Old Trafford for one final time.

Casemiro has faced his fair share of criticism since joining United back in 2023, but he has re-invented himself to become a crucial player for Carrick in recent months.
The 34-year-old has enjoyed his most productive season since moving to England, with nine goals and two assists to his name in the league, and his form was enough to have supporters wishing he had penned a new deal.

Instead, United have opted to go down a different route, but that hasn’t stopped the veteran from continuing to operate at an impressive level in recent weeks.
Casemiro took to Instagram after what is likely to have been his penultimate United appearance, as he shared a lengthy statement containing a heartfelt message for the fans.
He said “Manchester will forever be my home,” while also issuing his “sincerest thank you” to the city, club and every supporter, before ending his message with “forever a red devil.”
Messages of support have since poured in for the departing star, with Cunha commenting: “Obrigado mano! So isso” under the post, which translates to: “Thanks, brother! That’s all.”
Man United targeting Federico Valverde swoop
Football Insider revealed last week that Federico Valverde is a target for United this summer, as they are keen to try and exploit a falling out within the Real Madrid dressing room.
The Uruguayan recently had a bust-up with teammate Aurelien Tchouameni, which saw both players fined heavily, and there have since been suggestions that he could be allowed to leave the Spanish giants.
United are keeping a close eye on how that situation develops, amid reports that they could add as many as three new central midfielders to their squad ahead of next season.
Replacing Casemiro has become a top priority for the recruitment department this summer, and it is a call that they will be desperate to get right to ensure that Carrick has the strongest possible chance of success next term.
