Man United must sack Erik ten Hag after what he did in the ‘last game’ – Wyness

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Man United must sack Erik ten Hag this summer after a “fragile” and “incoherent” 2023-24 campaign.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed the Red Devils squad is “disjointed and full of discipline issues”.

Man United finished eighth in the Premier League this season and can only qualify for European football if they win the FA Cup final against Man City on Saturday (25 May).

Ten Hag has is under contract at Old Trafford until June 2025 after taking the job in 2022.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS have recently finalised a minority takeover at United and have taken charge of footballing matters, sparking speculation about the Dutchman’s future.

Ten Hag won’t last at Man United amid club ‘turmoil’, says Wyness

Football Insider revealed on Wednesday (22 May) that Mauricio Pochettino is a “serious and very interesting” option to replace Ten Hag.

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “It’s been a very mixed, very fragile, very incoherent season.

“I personally do not see Ten Hag lasting at all.

“I’ve been preaching stability for clubs, but I don’t think he’s the right person to start a period of stability with.

“For me, they’ll have to get a new manager in this summer. It was interesting to see his reaction during the last game at Old Trafford.

“I think there has been too much turmoil at the top during his time at the club, but also the squad is disjointed and full of discipline issues.

Man United owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe

“It’s not what we expect from Man United.

“It’s still not settled and in a stable place for Ratcliffe, and that’s where they need to be to make any kind of progress.”
