Man United news: Marcus Rashford tipped to explode under Pochettino – pundit

Noel Whelan has claimed Marcus Rashford could return to his best under the stewardship of Manchester United managerial target Mauricio Pochettino.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the Old Trafford club should not make a hasty decision on the 24-year-old’s future without appointing a new manager.

According to the Manchester Evening News (17 March), Barcelona and Liverpool have expressed interest in Rashford amid uncertainty over his Man United future.

The latest from an Old Trafford source to Football Insider (16 March) is that Pochettino is a top target for the post ahead of the summer.

Rashford is out of contract in June 2023, but Man United have the option to extend his stay a further year.

Whelan claimed Pochettino is “the best there is in terms of man-management”.

“I could see Pochettino getting the best out of Rashford,” he told Football Insider‘s Russell Edge.

“He’s the best there is in terms of man-management, in my opinion.

“I don’t think they should be thinking about selling players too quickly. They could get a manager in place who could come in and turn these players’ futures around.

“I’m sure Rashford will be thinking no further ahead than trying to do his best out on the pitch for Man United.

“Obviously there are issues, that is highlighted every single week. It’s not just on the training ground – it’s the whole regime.

“There is lots for Man United to figure out this summer, and lots for them to get right.”
