Man United news: Ralf Rangnick still has ‘big’ role to play after source’s Erik ten Hag update – pundit

Ralf Rangnick can still play a “big role” at Man United when he moves into a consultancy role, according to Danny Mills.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Man City and Leeds United defender claimed the 63-year-old is the right man to implement the “right people in the right places and the right processes”.

A United source told Football Insider yesterday (11 April) they are set to trigger Erik ten Hag’s Ajax release clause and he is expected to accept the position as their new manager.

The Daily Mail reported last week (5 April) Rangnick will only work six days a month when he moves into a consultancy role in the summer.

“He probably can play a big role still,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“You’re looking at a non-executive role or as a consultant.

“Does he know how to run a football club? Does he know the right things to put in place? Can he oversee things?

“There are lots of top people at the top level who work in that capacity. They put ideas out there and let other people implement them. They can say ‘I would do this in this situation, go and do it’.

“It will probably end up being more than that. For him, it will be about putting the right people in the right places and the right processes in place. Man United clearly don’t have that and haven’t for a long time.

“Forget about Ralf Rangnick as a coach, that’s not what he is or what his forte is at the top level. What he does know is football operations.”
