Man United player ratings v Nottingham Forest: Alejandro Garnacho disaster, 8/10 wows
Man United are through to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest on Wednesday evening (29 February).
Casemiro stole the headlines for the Red Devils with a late-headed goal but Erik ten Hag’s side failed to impress once again.
United traveled to the City Ground with an injury-stricken squad with eight first-team players sidelined for their cup clash.
Their FA Cup campaign is set to continue with a quarter-final clash against Liverpool next month (16 March).
Here are the ratings for Man United players after their 1-0 win over Forest:
Andre Onana [7]

A much-improved performance from United’s £47million summer signing.
Onana has faced plenty of criticism for his poor start as United’s No.1 but he looked much more composed and comfortable on Wednesday evening.
He made a strong save to deny Forest early on and his distribution was faultless.
Diogo Dalot [6]
Started brightly on the right flank and linked up well with Antony to create chances.
Dalot has been one of United’s most consistent performers this season and he showed Ten Hag once again that he can rely on him at right-back.
Raphael Varane [8]

One of United’s best players on the night – Varane stepped up in the absence of Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof to put on a commanding display.
Forest were often limited to shots from range and much of that was down to Varane’s solid defensive display.
Victor Lindelof [6]
Settled into the match well after a few early misplaced passes.
Looked comfortable alongside Varane and may be called on again by Ten Hag for the upcoming Manchester derby this weekend.
Sofyan Amrabat [4]

Doesn’t look cut out to be a Manchester United player.
Amrabat’s loan spell this season has fallen flat and it will be a surprise if they look to sign him permanently this season.
He looked far better in his usual midfield role late into the match but struggled massively at left-back and was regularly caught out by Neco Williams.
Scott McTominay [7]
He was finally given his chance in the starting lineup after scoring some vital goals in recent weeks and took it with both hands.
Should have scored once or twice from big chances early in the match and his late runs into the box proved to be a threat throughout.
Casemiro [7]

Scored the all-important goal to send United to the quarter-finals and looked solid in midfield.
The Brazilian was caught out a few times and was beaten too easily but he provided a solid foundation for United’s build-up.
Antony [5]

Ten Hag has been pushing Antony to improve in recent weeks and he started brightly with a shot that rattled off the cross-bar.
His build-up play with Dalot on the right flank looked sharp at first but faded as the match continued.
Once Rasmus Hojlund returns to action, expect Antony to drop back to the bench.
Bruno Fernandes [6]
Played through injury to continue his remarkable availability as United captain.
However, he lacked his usual creativity in the centre of the pitch until Casemiro connected with his late free-kick.
Ten Hag will hope his captain can once again be available for the derby clash this weekend.
Alejandro Garnacho [3]

Horrendous. A night to forget for United’s academy star.
Started on the left to accommodate Antony’s return and looked flat and unthreatening.
Gave away the ball far too regularly and attacks down the left continued to break down.
Marcus Rashford [5]
His effort cannot be criticised but Rashford once again struggled when asked to lead the line.
A new striker will be a top priority for United this summer and Rashford showed why against Forest.
Substitutes
Amad Diallo [5] – Was given the chance to impress for the final 20 minutes but failed to create chances or threaten Forest.
Kobbie Mainoo [N/A]
Jonny Evans [N/A]
