Man United ready new contract for loan star who’s ‘loving life’ as phone rings off the hook
Man United are planning to offer Harry Amass a new and improved contract as they weigh up whether to keep him on loan at Sheffield Wednesday for the remainder of this season.
Sheffield Wednesday were limited to signing free agents and loanees in the summer transfer window after being put under a transfer embargo by the EFL for breaking financial rules.
Man United loaned Amass to Wednesday on deadline day to help them out for the season, given their thin squad and lack of incomings, and he has impressed in his first full season as a senior player so far.
Amass won United’s Young Player of the Year for 2024-25 after he made seven first-team appearances across all competitions at just 18-years-old, with that form continuing in South Yorkshire.
He has played so well for the Championship’s bottom club that rumours have emerged over a potential recall to Old Trafford to join a higher-placed side, with a new update shedding light on his situation as it stands.

United want to extend Amass’ contract with Wednesday optimistic that he will stay
Wednesday have predictably struggled this season, but Amass has been a shining light with a goal and an assist each in 16 appearances so far.
PSV Eindhoven tried to sign Amass in the summer as numerous clubs competed for his services, and his strong Championship form has only seen more teams register their interest in him ahead of January.
The Daily Mail have reported that there is optimism at Wednesday that he will stay for the rest of the campaign and he is “loving life” in South Yorkshire, but nothing has been decided as of yet with the two clubs still in talks over what comes next.
United‘s phone is said to be “ringing off the hook” with loan enquiries from Premier League and Championship sides, and as well as talks about the short-term, part of the discussions with his camp have also centred around a potential new and improved Red Devils contract, with his current deal set to expire in 2027.
Wednesday’s positive takeover situation could impact Amass’ future
Owls manager Henrik Pedersen has insisted that the experience at his club has been “amazing” for Amass, and he will undoubtedly want to keep the teenager around for the rest of the campaign.
They are all but relegated from the second-tier already after two points deductions this season, though, which could mean United favour sending their starlet to a more competitive side.

However, controversial owner Dejphon Chansiri is no more at Hillsborough after plunging the club into administration, and things are looking up after years of turmoil under his stewardship.
Football finance expert Dr Dan Plumley has exclusively told Football Insider that Wednesday are in a strong position to agree a takeover deal as they will be given a clean slate from next season, and increased stability around the club could see United prefer to keep Amass where he is until next summer.
