Man United star Amad reacts as Mohamed Diomande sends Rangers message
Mohamed Diomande celebrated an incredible victory with the Rangers fans on social media after knocking Fenerbahce out of the Europa League on Thursday.
Despite Jose Mourinho‘s side getting the better of the Light Blues on 13 March, scoring twice in normal time to draw 3-3 on aggregate, the two sides eventually went to extra time and penalties.
Barry Ferguson, who is auditioning for the permanent Rangers job, could only watch on and hope as his team battled through 30 minutes of extra time, saved on multiple occasions by Jack Butland.
Butland would become Rangers’ hero in the penalty shootout, thwarting Dusan Tadic and Fred before Mert Hakan Yandas fired his effort miles over the crossbar, sparking pandemonium at Ibrox.

Taking to Instagram [14 March], Diomande, who Nedim Bajrami replaced after 68 minutes, wrote: Quarter-finals, here we come! Proud of the team and the fight we showed! On to the next one!”
As well as receiving likes from teammates Nico Raskin, Ianis Hagi and Dujon Sterling, Man United’s Amad also liked the post, with Brighton’s Simon Adingra replying with praise and fire emojis.
Rangers fans will be delighted to see the Red Devils forward keeping close contact with the Scottish side, having made 13 appearances for the Gers during the 2021/22 campaign.
Barry Ferguson provides evidence ahead of permanent Rangers manager decision
Football Insider verdict
Having made over 400 appearances for the Gers, it is hard to imagine that Ferguson would turn down extending his stay at Ibrox once the 2024/25 campaign comes to an end.
With the 49ers Enterprises looking to complete a Rangers takeover, there will be plenty of decisions to make once the summer rolls around, and picking a permanent manager is one of the key ones.
Rangers permanent managers | Years |
Steven Gerrard | June 2018 – Nov 2021 |
Giovanni van Bronckhorst | Nov 2021 – Nov 2022 |
Michael Beale | Nov 2022 – Oct 2023 |
Philippe Clement | Oct 2023 – Feb 2025 |
Ally McCoist told Football Insider that Rafa Benitez would be interested in taking the Rangers job if given the opportunity, but the likes of Steven Gerrard, Derek McInnes and Russell Martin have all been linked.
These names give Ferguson a lot of competition for the role he currently holds, but after advancing to the Europa League quarter-finals, it would be tough to say he doesn’t deserve a chance permanently.
He must now prove himself against their Old Firm rivals when taking on Celtic at Celtic Park on Sunday 16 March, even if the Scottish Premiership title race is already over with multiple games to go.
