Man United tipped to replace Solskjaer with ‘elite’ manager amid Di Marzio’s Conte update
Alan Hutton has tipped Manchester United to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with an “elite” manager amid reported talks with Antonio Conte.
The former Scotland international, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the Red Devils need a high-profile coach to get the best out of their superstars.
As reported by reputable Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio (26th October), Manchester United have already made preliminary contact with Conte over a potential move to Old Trafford.
The Red Devils are reportedly evaluating Solksjaer’s position as manager and whether change is needed.
The Norwegian manager’s position has come under serious scrutiny after Sunday’s 5-0 defeat to Liverpool.
Hutton admitted United do not look as though they have a plan under Solksjaer.
He suggested the appointment of a top-level manager would help get the best out of the club’s stars.
“We’re talking about Manchester United, one of the biggest teams in the world,” Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.
“You need an elite manager, somebody who can come in and deal with all these big players and has done it before.
“I just think they need a plan moving forward. You don’t really see them being aggressive and pressing. Are they a counter-attacking team or a possession-based team?
“I don’t really know where they’re sitting at this moment in time. I think it’s the individual brilliance at times getting them through certain periods of games.

“For somebody to come in, take that talent, hone it and make it better, you need an elite manager.”
Conte is currently out of work having left Inter Milan at the end of last season.
