Man United told to ‘go and get Pochettino’ by Tottenham expert

Manchester United should appoint Mauricio Pochettino as their new manager to replace Erik ten Hag as speculation continues around his future at the club.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson, who is well-connected at the north London club, claimed the ex-Spurs boss would be the ideal man to come in and make a difference under the new regime at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils hierarchy are conducting a thorough season review, where they will decide whether to stick with Ten Hag or let him go after claiming a 1-0 win over Manchester City in the FA Cup final.

Pochettino and Roberto De Zerbi are in the frame for the job, but former Man United coach Kieran McKenna is now out of the running after signing a new contract with Ipswich Town.

Football Insider revealed last month Pochettino has emerged as a “serious and very interesting” option for the club after he left Chelsea by mutual consent.

Mauricio Pochettino backed to replace Erik ten Hag at Man United

Robinson believes now is the time for Man United to appoint the former Tottenham boss instead of giving Ten Hag another chance to prove himself at Old Trafford.

“Erik Ten Hag will be gone by Christmas,” he told Football Insider.

“It will be the biggest mistake that they make. You look at this season and the way they performed. One game doesn’t mask a whole season.

“Yes, you do get hoodwinked into the fact they had a great performance and he got a tune out of his team.

“But actually, did he get a tune out of his team at Selhurst Park when they got beat 4-0? An FA Cup final doesn’t mask a whole season of woes.

“They need a big change there with INEOS and Jim Ratcliffe coming in.

“While Mauricio Pochettino is on the market, go and get a manager like that. Pochettino has been touted to Manchester United for a long time.

“I just think you’re delaying the agony. With Ten Hag, you would just be kicking the can down the road and waiting for that next manager to come in.

“All the stats say he shouldn’t keep his job on the back of one game.”
